As an orientation to life and death, spiritual consciousness is characterized by the search for meaning transcendent of socially constructed reality. An understanding of the dynamics of spiritual development and spiritual consciousness is approached from a Jungian perspective- consequently, this treatise opens with an overview of Jungian concepts, the theoretical structures which define relationships among the concepts and, as one application of the theoretical structures, principles of dream analysis. The treatise closes with broader implications for a practice which fosters development of spiritual consciousness. The recent publication of The Red Book of C.G. Jung (2009) gives documentation of Jung’s spiritual developmental journey from 1914 to 1930, in terms of his mandala art and dream interpretations. This primer serves also to make comprehensible to the lay reader the developmental theory underlying his journal.
